My Story

Hi, I’m Vanessa and I am taking part in the dazzling Strictly Extravaganza 2025, and I need your help to make a difference! Since 2013, I’ve worked at Forest Holme, first as a nurse on the ward, and more recently as the End Of Life Nurse Specialist. Forest Holme Hospice is still a very much part of my working day.

My mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour 3 and half years ago and my world turned upside and time with my mum was very short. She declined very quickly and needed hospice care, I found myself on the other side of the Forest Holme experience. I saw first hand the care, patience, and compassion that is so prevalent throughout Forest Holme, and even after my mum died at Forest Holme I felt the support and love continue as myself and my family went through the grieving process.

My mum would always say I’m not a girly girl and I would love to surprise my family, friends, and colleagues with heels and glitter. However most of all: raise lots of money, so lots more patients and families can be be supported at their most difficult time.
My mum was lucky to have the support of everyone at Forest Holme and I’m very grateful to be part of the nursing team. This would be the most amazing way to give back to the hospice.

Please donate and support me though my journey and hopefully not breaking a leg!
